Before Alpen: Seeing the problem first-hand

Before founding Alpen, Glen Matulich spent over a decade running businesses across retail, wholesale, distribution and hospitality - including a high-end bicycle store and a fast-growing café in Adelaide. Across multiple systems and increasingly complex operations, one issue kept coming up: there was no affordable, integrated platform built for how Australian businesses actually operate. Too much time was spent extracting information from systems instead of using it to improve performance. That frustration became the catalyst for Alpen.

2017

The idea takes shape

In 2017, Glen partnered with his father Steve, an experienced software engineer, to begin building a solution to the challenges Glen had lived every day. The ambition was simple but bold: Create enterprise capability, without enterprise cost or complexity. From the outset, the focus was on integration, usability and operational clarity.
2018-2020

Built from the ground up

Early versions of Alpen were developed, with Ascent POS introduced to clients across a range of industries, both locally and internationally. At the same time, Summit ERP continued to be developed. From the outset, Glen and Steve designed the software in partnership with clients, using real-world business insight to guide its ongoing refinement.
2020-2022

Clients drive the product

As Alpen grew, this close collaboration with clients became a defining feature. Working alongside businesses such as SA Mushrooms and BIGA+, Glen and Steve led significant refinement of both Summit ERP and Ascent POS, embedding features that reflected how businesses actually operate - not how software assumes they do.
2023-2024

Finding the sweet spot

As the platforms matured, Alpen’s strongest fit became clear. The focus sharpened on complex retail, food production, building supply, manufacturing and distribution industries.By serving fewer industries more deeply, Alpen was able to deliver faster implementations, stronger alignment and more consistent outcomes for clients.

Recent Milestones
